You mean DJ Jerome or DJ Jerom? I don't know DJ Jerome but I know DJ Jerom since I remixed 2 of his tracks (Body Combat and Eyes Of An Angel) and he remixed one of mine (Devotion).. .. (and more to come......). .. :)

He always has nice melodic trance sets....

[Dance Paradise] The Rise of Indie/Rock and R&B/Hip Hop Good For EDM???

In the last year there has been a rise in the number of Hip-Hop/ R&B
artist making more club orientated music (e.g Rhianna- Please Dont
Stop The Music) and it has become very popular (at least in the UK)
which has risen to it getting more club play and commercial notice.
There is also Indie/Rock making its way onto the club/rave scene
(Klaxons- Not Over Yet), and Ibiza Rocks is looking like its going to
have its biggest year with a whole Ibiza Rocks Hotel on the White
Isle schedualed for the '08 season.

Anyway, it seems that these genres are eating away at EDM as the
major form of club play and while i was unhappy at the change at
first on reflection i think it may be a good thing. If they force EDM
back underground and out of commercialism then prehaps there will be
a Renaissance of sorts in the Uber Genre. EDM and particularly trance
will be flushed of all its crap like Cascada becasue they rely on
their popularity to make money. Most people will jump ship when
something new comes in to replace the old like Cascada and with no
talent what so ever they would not last in the "New EDM" where
musical talent would be critical to survive.

It would also mean then end of DJ worship....clubs wouldnt be able to
charge £30 for a ticket to pay for Tiesto, Armin etc which would give
new DJ talent a chance to shine and in doing so outshine the old
DJ's.

Once again....what are your views on the topic?

Do you want the renaissance going back to quality music and no "dress
to impress" dress codes for clubs?

or are you happy with the scene at the moment?

NOTE: I believe that there is still good EDM at the moment....its
just it would be nice to see that it gets recognition rather than
being pushed away by big money.

[Dance Paradise] Re: Who Gets Annoyed by People Calling Everything Techno???

Cool, i will check out "In Sides" and try and get hold of a copy. I
cant believe that I hadnt listened to them earlier....i guess this
goes back to your point about changing tastes...and the fact that the
CD market is dominated by who ever has the most money rather than the
best music today.

I too like to dabble in a bit of house and a bit of Minimal. I have
recently purchased the first 4 Annuals by Ministry which I think are
great.....fun and happy like house should be with a
little "transition trance" as i call it.

If you could post me the link to that Joris Voorn set that would be
great. I like the clicking sounds in minimal trance (or the minimal i
have heard)....kinda a substitute for the acid that was dominant in
1990-1996 trance.

I will have a look for those tracks.....are they the ones that are on
the iTunes comps that i got messages about??? What name are they
under???

Also, scrap what i said about emailing if there are other people that
will be interested in what is being said and if the mailing list is
going to be revived!

[Dance Paradise] Re: Who Gets Annoyed by People Calling Everything Techno???

Thanks Maurice for the applause!

Where I live EDM is just slagged off the whole time by people that
wont give it a fair try :-(

Needless to say i have no one in person to discuss it with so these
sorts of lists and others are great for me to communicate with other
EDM fans.

It would be great to revive the genre a bit and show everyone that as
you say that PVD, AVB and Tiesto are not the only people that exist!

As I have said before to everyone on the mailing list dont just let
this be about me (it will get pretty boring if its all about me and
my views!) Have your rants too! !-)

Im having a good old think for a new topic/ rant so keep your eyes
open for that!

Yeah... would be nice to see more discussion like this here...
Applause for Adam for bringing back life in this mailinglist!....  :)
And of course you don't need to discuss this subject outside this list, that's where this list is for: discussion, helping others expand their view on dance music (there's more on Earth than just Tiesto, PVD and Armin van Buuren)...

Greetz!

RE: [Dance Paradise] Re: Who Gets Annoyed by People Calling Everything Techno???

Orbital are the best.
The CD 'In Sides' is epic.
The best CD ever imo.

The track 'out there somewhere' sends me in outerspace.
And I don't need any chemicals with that. :)

I like Trance off course, but I listen to some House and some Mininal from
time to time.

Titles and producer names are very tricky for me.'
They seem to dissolve in my head.

I like the work of Above and Beyond.
The remix of Madonna - What it feels like for a girl is about the best
collaboration between a hit factory and Trance imo.

Joris Voorn is my minimal hero. He has a typical 'plinky-plonky' style which
you have to play as loud as you can.
My neighbours love me for playing Joris. :)
If you want, I can send you a link to one of his DJ sets.

I've just finished remixing a few tracks from our 'in house' trance producer
Matt Pincer.
His style tracks is a mix between Nu Energy and a darker 'German' style.
Very uplifting.

There is not much activity lately on the list. But a few years ago you
couldn't almost keep up with the number of discussions.
It seems everyone is blogging nowadays.

I hope the old days of the mailing list is coming back.

Everything Techno???

I totally agree that age has something to do with music taste. (this
convo is actualy way more interesting than what i was origanally
hoping to talk about!) My personal taste had been very varied up to
discovering EDM. I never really had a music "taste" untill i was 14
(when i discovered EDM) and sinse then i have never looked back.

Within EDM my taste has grown (one of the first albums i bought
was "Clubland 8" which i now cringe if i put on its so cheesy....now
i listen to "Orbital" considered one of the best producers of EDM
ever)

Addmittedly my taste still wavers now and then but my favourite is
trance and i always end up back listening to that after a while of
other EDM like House and techno.

Trance is so fragmented and encorporates a huge amount of music that
even contemporary trance sounds completely different to other
comtemporary trance e.g Sasha's "Who Killed Sparky?" and Andre Visior
& Kay Stones "Something For Your Mind"

You say 1999 trance sounds completely different to present trance but
1999 trance also sounded comepletey different to 1990 trance as well.
By 1999 it was also less "entrancing" which is how the genre got its
name in the 1st place.

Indeed, lots of people recon trance is dead but i simply think it has
evolved again. Old school trance enthusiasts claimed it was dead/
sell out genre in 1996 (when progressive trance came along) while
most respected producers like Sahsa claimed this in 2000 and opted
for a newer form of progressive trance and house which was a better
time to make the move as 1996-2000 saw some of the greatest trance
tracks ever.

Im not sure whether you were trying to say to me that my tastes will
be changed/influenced or whether you were refering generally but im
the only person at my school (and that i know) that listens to proper
EDM so my taste doesnt change to fit in with the corwed becasue i
already stick out becasue of my music taste! Which is agood thing as
my tastes will progress naturally. Its really nice having songs that
i didnt listen to before becasue i didnt appreciate them then
suddenly sounding amazing. But like i said before, trance is always
(i think) going to be my favouite.

I suddenly realised i have written a mini essay there (sorry about
that...i get carried away sometimes with these matters!)

So Bart...what about you??? What sorts of EDM are you into? How have
your tastes changed and all that? (and anyone else for that matter?)

Also, do you check regularly the email that comes up when i get
messeges form you??? Its just it mite be easier to continue the convo
via our email so everyone in this group doesnt have to keep getting
our messages????

Re: [Dance Paradise] Whats Your Opinion on Tiesto????

Paul O is the worst when it comes to the "respond and react because I put my hands in the air" thing.  At the same time, one could make the argument that they are just feeling the music and having a good time.  I personally like a bunch of styles mixed throughout the night.  Tance, Techno, Progressive house and even electro.  It is all about taking the audience on a journey.  Jonathan Peters and Eric Morillo really do that for me.

Armin van Buuren does the same things Tiesto does and maybe even worse. He gets his arms in the air and it's like he wants everyone to follow him.

I think they're better DJ's out there then just those two.

I personally love trance around 2000

number of albums under his name than any other DJ so that is all they
have heard.

The final insult (i could go on with this rant but i will spare you
all!!!) is that these zombies all rave and say his best work is stuff
liek Adagio For String, Traffic and Flight 643 which are some of the
most un-trance like songs EVER made. Also....anyone noticed how
Flight 643, Traffic and Dance 4 Life ll sound incredibly
similar..... Filght 643 was enough.....we really didnt need more
sounding like it!

The real reason for writing this though is that i have just
remembered i had his artist album "In My Memory" and im listening to
it now feeling slightly stupid.

It is actually a very musical album showing that he doesnt just make
horrible industrial trance. Yes Flight 643 is there but there will
always be one song on an album you are not as fond of.

The begining 3 or 4 tracks would be accpeted by anyone as not being
rubbish regardless of whether they like EDM or not and then the more
club based tracks like Obsession and Suburban Train are very good
indeed making this a very good album all in all inmy opinion and
shows that Tiesto is not a complete sell out.

So thats me over....what do you think about him past and present....?

BTW i knw In Your Memory was released in 2002 but trance is in such a
mess at the moment that i though it best to annalyse from a little
while ago just becaseu that would be fairer than annalysing the music
now.....the God like status STILL applies today though!!!! I still
dont like that and its going to be worse than ever this year with his
night in Ibiza!

RE: [Dance Paradise] Re: Who Gets Annoyed by People Calling Everything Techno???

I understand what you mean by expanding your knowledge.
It is good to ask other peoples opinion about a subject.

I'm not the one that needs to judge someone because of their age.
But I do think that age has something to do with it. I know that a persons
musical taste develops over time. Young people have a habit of jumping
styles when a hype is gone.

Also the music style changes over time.
Trance from 1999 is completely different that contemporary Trance.
I have a Muzik magazine from 2000 asking "Is Trance dead?" on the cover.

The irony is, the magazine is dead and Trance isn't. :)

Good music is like a good wine.
Some people love it, others only drink Cola.

And does it matter what's on the label?

Ah, sorry...i get what you mean now. Indeed i have no problem with
people try to put the music into one simple catagory for convinience
and i understand that. What annoys me is that people use "techno" as
this simple catagory when it should be "Electronic Dance Music"and
then act like they know so much about it.

Also, i wasnt insinuating that all parents loose touch with what is
new in music, but was simply saying lots do on the whole, and that im
not aiming this at them as they are allowed to make that mis-naming
due to the fact that they have been out of touch for like the last 20
odd years.

Now, i dont usually say my age in matters like this as it makes
people come to false conclusions about me and what i say. But seeming
as you said age has nothing to do with it in your opinion i shall
tell you (and everyone else as this goes to all mambers in the Dance
Paradise Group!)

Im 17, so yeah i may not have been around when lots of EDM was made,
been 10 when trance and that was "at its peak" and never been to a
club becasue im not old enough.....but i would appreciate that people
DONT assume then what i say is S*** and not correct just becuase i
havent "been there"

Please note i also dont think im some sort of expert on all this (how
could i be at 17) but i feel im knowlegable enough to write these
posts. Incidently that is also why i keep asking for other poeples
opinions so that my own knowlege can be expanded.
